RATINGS SUMMARY

  • Splash may have started on ABC but there was no chance of them knocking CBS from their dominant Tuesday night position with the demo and total people victory
  • Plenty of attention on ABC's Splash last night and the premiere did quite well. It was third for the night in demo and became the highest rating premiere on ABC (non scripted) in more than two years and the best on any network since September 2011. It went up 3% in total people and 8% in demo from its first half hour to its second. Spoke with ABC (Alternative department) this morning and they are delighted with the numbers and they also said it gets better each week. The opening of the show was BIG with dancers, performance divers and music. The ABC version is everything that the Fox one was not. ABC also went much deeper on the personal side of things - an example was comedian Louie Anderson, who is huge (just under 200kg), and he spoke how when he started, he couldn't even get out of the pool by himself at first and while getting emotional, spoke about how embarrassing it was. He then came out and dove head first of the 7.5m platform, for the first time ever. Former Australian Olympian and current US Dive Team Director Steve Foley was one of the judges and he was just horrible but pretty much the only weak link apart from the horrendous rug that host Joey Lawrence was wearing. Former Cosby Show darling Keshia Knight Pulliam was the first to be kicked off. All in all, a good solid show even without massive names.
  • Not surprisingly, Splash gave the rest of the night on ABC a good leg up with Dancing with the Stars: Exclusive First Look up 5% from last year's DWTS: The Story So Far. Body of Proof was the biggest recipient though with a 25% increase that saw it go from a series low last week to a season high this week.
  • Over on first place network CBS, NCIS did its thing with 19.1 million viewers to be by far, the most watched show of the night but it was down 9% from two weeks ago. NCIS LA was on par with two weeks ago and also featured guest spots with John Corbett and Kim Raver who star in the upcoming NCIS spin off (currently called RED). Golden Boy increased 13% from last week but only just won its hour even though it had a huge lead in from NCIS LA.
  • Fox tied with ABC for the night in demo and was third behind ABC in total people. Hell's Kitchen kicked off the night and was down 5% - I think that's pretty good considering Splash premiere and NCIS was a repeat last week - Fox should be happy with that. New Girl was down 4%and The Mindy Project was on par.
  • And there was the basket case that is NBC - The Voice just cannot come back soon enough for the peacock as they are literally the laughing stock of Hollywood at the moment. Even the Americans are comparing them to TEN at the moment. They finished a distant fifth last night behind even Univision (Spanish speaking network). At 8pm, Betty White's Off Their Rockers was down 23% from its last first run on Feb 26 but the 8.30pm episode was up 22% from last week (which was a series low). Go On was down 9% and The New Normal was down 22%. Smash was down 11% for a series low - it pulled a 0.8 in demo......
  • CW was off the radar with The iHeart Radio Album Release Party with Justin Timberlake (longest title ever) and Beauty and the Beast
