RATINGS SUMMARY
- It was a healthy win for Fox in both demo and total people last night with ABC second in demo and CBS second in total people - both by solid margins
- Idol took the stage last night with Smokey Robinson as a mentor for the Detroit Motor City themed performance show. It was down 14% from last week and set a record as the LOWEST EVER rating Wednesday show in the history of Idol.
- Survivor was down 8% which is better than most shows at the moment....CBS had repeats the rest of the night
- ABC was up and down like a yo-yo last night: The Middle was down 14% while The Neighbors was up 7% from last week while. Modern Family hit a THREE YEAR low and was down 20% from the last first run on February 27 - ironically that was the night it beat Idol in demo for the first time ever! The good news after that was Suburgatory which was up 27% after last week's series low. Nashville closed out the night with a 6% decline which was a series low
- Without The Voice, NBC slipped straight back to fourth place in demo and people. Back to back episodes of Whitney saw the first ep on par and the second picked up 10%. Law & Order SVU and Chicago Fire were both up 6% - plenty of talk at the moment about a Chicago Fire spin off.....
- Over on The CW and Arrow was down slightly while Supernatural was on par
- Substantial news today with talk that Barbara Walters will retire next year. This hasn't been confirmed yet.
- Demi Lovato has been confirmed to return as a judge on The X factor - no surprise here. I will have information on the other judges shortly....
- FX today announced the launch of their third channel with the details below - straight in to 74 million homes is handy....
FX Officially Unveils FXX Channel To Launch In September, New Branding Campaign
At its upfront presentation, FX brass confirmed the launch of a third FX-branded entertainment network, FXX, and an expansion of FXM (movie channel). FXX, expected to take over Fox Soccer Channel, will be available in 74 million homes and will launch September 2. The expansion across the three FX networks will be supported by a big increase in original programming. FX president John Landgraf projected that FX would double its original offerings to 25 original series within the next few years to achieve parity with ABC, NBC and CBS.
As part of the new FXX, the network today also renewed three FX comedy series — flagship It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The League and Legit — that will help launch FXX, along with late-night show Totally Biased With W. Kamau Bell, which will expand to five nights a week when it moves to the new network September 2. The plan for FXX is to start with four original comedy series and one late-night show; the fourth original comedy will likely come from one of FX’s half-hour pilots, FX president John Landgraf said. The new network’s original offerings will go up to six comedy series by the second year and to gradually introduce dramas.
The three channels will target different demographics. FX will continue to cater to adults 18-49, FXX will target adults 18-34 and FXM will go after adults 25-54. “They will share DNA and similar sensibilities for viewers interested in smart, cutting-edge programming”, Landgraf said. FX will ramp up its drama portfolio from 3 to 7 dramas and 4-6 comedies. FXM’s original programming will be built around limited-event series, part of FX-Fox’s joint initiative in the genre.
The network makeover will come with a new branding campaign as FX changes its logo to FX Fearless.
