RATINGS REPORT

  • The Olympics on NBC slipped a full ratings point from Tuesday, down to a 5.6 and well below the equivalent night in the 2010 games (which had an 8.9). Nevertheless, NBC has begun releasing Olympic ad slots that it had been reserving in case of ratings shortfalls. With the big ratings the Sochi games have garnered, these primetime spots are going at a premium and are expected to push NBC’s  Olympic ad revenue above the $1 billion mark.
  • American Idol on Fox managed a 3.4, down a half point from last Wednesday’s 3.9.
  • Surrounded on all sides by reruns, Super Fun Night on ABC hit a series low-tying 1.3, down from last week’s 1.5.

OTHER NEWS

  • Pending shareholder and regulatory approval, Comcast has acquired Time Warner in a $45.2 billion deal. If approved the deal will add 8 million subscribers to Comcast’s customer base, bringing them to over 30 million subscribers in total. This is by no means a done deal - there are lots of anti-trust issues that will need to be resolved.
  • The CW has renewed a whole bunch of their dramas, including Arrow. Other pickups include The Originals, Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural.
  • Netflix has acquired from Lucasfilm the right to the final season of the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
  • Matt Lauer will sit in again for Bob Costas, who will be out for a third night of NBC’s olympic coverage tonight.
  • And since I know you’ve all been on pins and needles with anticipation, joining Tara Reid and Ian Zeiring for Sharknado 2: The Second One will be Kelly Osbourne, Judd Hirsch, Andy Dick, Judah Friedlander, Vivica A. Fox and Mark McGrath.
