RATINGS SUMMARY
- A rare win last night for two hit wonder NBC - take away The Voice and AGT and it would be the American version of SBS....Fox was a VERY close second with Mastechef
- AGT was the top show for the night in total people by a large margin but only just beat Masterchef in demo (keep in mind AGT was a two hour show and Masterchef was one hour). Robin Thicke and Brad Paisley performed but it didn't help with a minor 4% decline from last week although it was UP 15% from the same episode last year.
- Rachel Griffiths career low point, Camp on NBC, was actually UP 20% in demo and won the hour in demo but given the AGT audience dropped it like a hot potato, this rare increase is no cause for celebration.
- Big Brother was the only first run on CBS last night and although it was down 13% in demo, not insubstantial, taking the peaks and troughs into account, you just have to admire the consistency and dedication of the BB audience - maybe The Daily Telegraph should realize that this is a long term, solid performer.
- ABC only had one original show last night which was its news magazine show, The Lookout. It hit a five week high and was up 8% in demo and 21% in total people but at a 0.9 in demo and 3.5 million viewers, it's well under the radar....
OTHER NEWS
- No surprise with word that Keith Urban is returning to Idol. As previously mentioned, my sources told me that Jennifer Lopez was also going to be coming back but at US$17 million, and the fact it was a Mike Darnell deal, given his departure, we will see if it still happens.
- Hulu presented at the TCA's (Television Critics Association) today and advised that they will likely double the number of original productions next year. The problem for Hulu, unlike Netflix, is the fact they have 20 original productions this year and I have not spoken to one single person who has ever mentioned one of them as opposed to House of Cards on Netflix which is a hot topic.
- Still on Netflix and they continue to make impressive innovations - today they announced that every person in the house will be able to have their own profile meaning tailored content selections every time you log in. Simple but smart.
- ABC completed their upfront sales today and while they are not commenting publicly, word is that they got CPM increases of 7-8%, the same as NBC
