RATINGS SUMMARY

  • It was a relatively tight win by CBS in demo but a landslide in total people
  • Plenty of coverage yesterday about Randy Jackson leaving American Idol - we knew this was coming and expect the announcements on Mariah and Nicki as well - neither will be returning. We are down to the final two on Idol and I think it is relatively safe to say that very few people care. Idol had a good night though with a 12% increase from last week. Glee had a mixed night - it was the season finale and while it was up 11% from last week, it was down a massive 28% from last seasons finale
  • Big Bang Theory was the most watched show for the night in demo and total people but it was down 6% in demo. Season 10 of Two And A Half Men finished 6% up from last week but 13% down from last seasons finale. Person of Interest also had its season finale (season two) and was on par with last week which was a series low. Elementary closed out the night for CBS with a 10% decline to hit a season low
  • ABC and Fox tied for second in demo last night. ABC kicked off the night with the season six premiere of Wipeout. This is NOT a typo - it was down 56% from the season 5 premiere - lowest rated season opener ever. Going up against Idol wasn't such a great idea. Grey's Anatomy held up quite well with only a 3% decline while Scandal flexed its muscle with a 23% increase to beat Idol in demo again and hit a series high. While Elementary won 10pm in total people, Scandal won the hour in demo by a country mile.
  • And then we get to NBC - must be an awesome vibe in their office this morning - fifth in total people, tied for fourth in demo with Spanish speaking Univision - just highlight after highlight.......they started off the night with Community which was up 8% in demo. Critics love this show as do all the funky "bloggers" but when you have a primetime show pulling 3.1 million viewers in a country of 320 million, it's time to let that love go free..... A one hour The Office was up 28% ahead of next weeks series finale. Hannibal closed out the night on a low - it was on par with last week but with a 1.1 in demo and 2.7 million viewers, it's a disaster.
  • Vampire Diaries was down slightly for the CW while Beauty and the Beast was on par with last week
PROGRAMMING NEWS
  • No shocks here with the NBC announcement they were canceling Guys with Kids (horrendous), Up All Night (this must have been made due to losing a bet), Whitney (thankfully) and 1600 Penn (how this was commissioned in the first place is beyond comprehension). Parks and Recreation was renewed - while I do love this show, a repeat of Toddlers and Tiaras pulls better numbers.
  • Other news from pilot season: NBC have ordered the Chicago Fire spinoff (Chicago PD) to series. I can't even tell you the last time a remake worked but NBC are trying again anyway with a series order of Ironside. It was a hit back in the 60's so makes sense to bring it back... Hawaii Five-O is probably the only one that has done "ok"?? NBC have also picked up the comedy Undateable from Bill Lawrence and Warner Bros.
  • I will do an overall wrap up of all pilots again early next week.
  • T Group Productions are about to go to market with a new show in the makeover space that tracks a group of people after they've had serious plastic surgery to see whose life improved and whose didn't. Feels very much like a cable show but interesting still
  • Head of Alternative for Fox has been hammered by some in the press today following the announcement of Junior Masterchef. The criticism was not aimed at Masterchef but mainly at Darnell for the fact he will now have FIVE shows on air with Gordon Ramsay and people questioning whether he can come up with anything new.
  • As a massive fan of Burn Notice, I am sad to hear this season will be its last. The good news is that Matt Nix (creator and EP of Burn Notice) is already working on a new show for USA that will be produced by FTV.
  • TBS have ordered six episodes of The CeeLo Life which follows his life - enthralling.....
